Excerpt from Peterson Estate 6...

Here's a scene that my Beta Reader said was my best one. See if you agree....

John kept his eyes on the gates. He could hear something above him. He levitated to the ceiling so he could hear the battle that was going down at that very moment. It sounded so beautiful. He could hear the flesh tear and the blood drop to the ground. It was like time was standing still and then slowly moving forward. The anticipation was building, and he was a child again, waiting to open his gifts. The first time he killed an animal; this is what it felt like. His memories rushed back to him as he stood between this time and the next where seconds no longer existed and time was frozen in place. He placed his hand on the rock that held the gates in place. He could feel the power radiating from it. The heat began to build up, and it would explode, forcing the doors open wide. He would be free at that moment, and any demon who rushed out behind him would be free. No cracks to squeeze through, no bodies to possess, they would be free just as the wind was free to move between the trees taking the leaves with it. He held onto that moment as he waited for the doors to open wide, inviting him to rush out back into the world of the living. He was ready—he was beyond ready.

This was the moment just before he rose from Hell. In the beginning of book 5, you can see Emily's version of the same scene. Emily Peterson had two choices, let the gates of Hell stay open and fight the demons or go to Hell and seal the gates from the inside, locking herself in. John (the Great Dark Witch) knew which choice she would make because he saw her do it in his visions. He made plans based on that decision.

Part of the reason why I wrote book 6 in the manner that I did was to show how strong Emily Peterson truly was. In order to do that, I had to reveal how strong John is and he is strong. His power was stolen though, and the more he had, the more he wanted. Greed can be a very dangerous thing. This is one book that you shouldn't read before the others because there's a little of each book before this one weaved into the story. He's the reason why the castle had been haunted all those years. He was the one who sent all the demons to the Peterson family. It's so cool how things came known in this book. Now I can't wait for the next one because it reveals more about Emily! And I know she's the real star in the series lol.
