Stop Rebooting our Shows. Make Something New
Two new shows getting rebooted from the original. Highway to Heaven and Doogie Howser, to add to already rebooted TV shows like Charmed (they made their reboot really quick), Magnum PI, Macgyver, etc. These shows were shows I grew up with and I'm sure you did you. So why are they repeating these old shows instead of making new original shows?
When someone is great, you should leave it alone, in my opinion. There's a channel already made to air these old shows for people who want to watch them again. It's called TV Land. It's not like they can't change the line-up after so many weeks, giving the other shows a chance to air again. People are still watching shows like Gunsmoke these days because the shows were good. They should be left alone. It's the same way with movies. If the movie was done right the first time, leave it alone. Do something original instead of remaking it. Yes, Ghostbusters was good, but the original was good too. It could have been added to the series instead of acting like the original wasn't even there. Okay, yes, women have the right to be main characters too, that's why you make something original with women actors. Instead of rebooting what's already made. I'm sorry if I sound like a broken record, that just bursts my bubble lol.
As a creator of stories, myself, I wouldn't want to have my stories made into a movie just so someone can go back and remake it into their version of my original version, and keep everything the same except for the characters. If I wanted someone else to play the MC, I would have written it that way. I'm sure the producers have permission from the creators to do it (those who are alive, that is), but to me it's an insult to my creation. The creators put so much work into their pieces of work, the countless hours of lost sleep, the rewrites, the headaches, the loss of appetites, etc that have gone into the creation of these pieces should be respected. Yet someone decides they can make more money if they change a boy doctor into a girl doctor and retell the same story. I'm sure there will be differences, but that's not the point.
What do you think? Are you in favor of these reboots? Or are you like me and am tired of seeing your favorite shows being traded in for something new and less good than the original? Okay, not sure if "good" is the right word. I can't even think now. Share your answers below. Thank you, so much!
