Design Question and Idea

Okay, this is not the cover but it is an idea for one. This is simple yet says Christmas. After putting this together to get a feel for what I was thinking, it does not work because it says nothing about what the story is. Well, other than Christmas. And that's just a small part of the story.

Winter is late and Jack Frost is missing. Nemoy disappears in search of Jack and of course, Maria has snuck out to follow Nemoy, so she can help her friend. So now she's the one who must find Jack Frost. There will be a dragon because my granddaughter says she wants a dragon in her story (she's the MC's inspiration so I asked what she wanted in the story lol).

So, idea #1. Something like this cover but with a dragon wrapped around the tree, somehow.........
Idea #2. A boy (Jack Frost) floating above the scene with snow coming from his hands and drifting towards the bottom of the scene, with the girl and tree.

Of course, the girl would look more like the first girl in the first book in any design that I request from the designer. I just threw this design together using Canva so it won't be used. Just using it as an idea to go from.

Does either design idea work or would you suggest something else? Keep in mind that this is a children's story and will be the size of 8X5 like the first book was. Or is it 5X8? I get the two sizes mixed up lol.

I have reached more than 14K words for the story so far and it's really good. Of course, right now I'm just getting the story out. I will be going through it once finished to add a lot of detail and make it glow. The people who helped me edit the first book will be asked to Beta read once I finish that part. I am guessing that it will be September before I reach that point. Maybe even early October.

Update!

Murder Through Time is coming along. I have about 50 more pages to get edited. Then a quick run-through to check one more time. I am following the Beta readers as they read and suggest changes. I am excited that they love the story so far and one has finished reading it twice! She couldn't find any more errors and says the plot is perfect. Another Beta-reader says she can't wait to see how the story ends. I'm excited that she's excited lol. So that's it for now. I'll see you again next week for another entry!
